Anatomy of a Well Written Song by Carlton Richard

Anatomy of a Well Written Song by Carlton Richard

Well most beginner artists and producers know that a song has to have a beginning, middle, and end. A well written song also has a story outline that explains, what's taking place. For example a love ballard usually is about one person who's madly in love with another person that may or maynot feel the same about them. This could be considered the topic. Now that we have established the topic, let's establish the main action in the story outline. For example in the love ballad the man sings crying out to his girl friend who just recently dediced to end their relationship. He responds by singing to her in the rain (corny but stay with me) the main action would be him singing to win her heart back. As a result of the main action she will either stay or continue to crush his poor little heart. Which brings us to the ending action, if she stays then the end will be happy and they will hold hands walking together in the park,it will stop raining and the sun will shine brightly. If she still does want him , then he will be struck by lighting as he walk away. So what does all this mean? It's merely a suggestion to write out the story line, first instead of going full speed ahead into a song, this well help your writing skills by keeping your words flowing, telling a story and establishing a beginning, middle and end that the listeners can follow.

Make Your Own Beats: Using FL Studio by RingFingerUP! Media

Make Your Own Beats: Using FL Studio by RingFingerUP! Media

While some people swear by certain software (or hardware for that matter), it all comes down, once again, to preference. It's always debatable which software provides the best tools, but the "best" tools is subjective and can differ from person to person. Just like how some people will swear on oath that the Mac is the best computer out, PC users will tell you otherwise, or vice versa. The best way to find out which one works best for you is to try them out. Luckily, like most software out, vendors usually offer users trial versions of there software or sometimes even no-time limit versions and instead disable some functions, such as saving or exporting your creations. This gives you the opportunity to try different ones out and see which one works best for you. Some people base their opinion on the different features a program offers while others may base their decision on how easy it is to use. For the purpose this guide, we'll clue you in on the best software out there, that won't break the bank. The centerpiece of your production studio will be your sequencer.

The Sequencer: The sequencer will be the main production tool in your arsenal; so needless to say, it's important to choose one that you're most comfortable with and increases your productivity. In essence, the sequencer is the platform you will use to make your own beats on; from laying down your patterns to creating the foundation of your track. Two of the more popular loop-based software sequencers out there that hip-hop beat makers may use are Propellerhead's Reason and Image-Line's FL Studio (previously known as Fruityloops). This free online guide will focus on using FL Studio. FL Studio comes in three different flavors: the Producer Edition, the Fruity Edition, and the Express Edition. The Producer Edition is one of the more expensive editions at $149 and evidently has the most features, while the other two are $99 and $49 respectively. The Producer Edition is more of a pattern-based Digital Audio Workstation (or DAW) in the sense that it's more than just a sequencer, but a "do-it-all" program and can be the standalone, centerpiece of your entire studio. For the sake of this free guide, you should have at least the Fruity Edition as the Express Edition cannot be used as a standalone sequencer and requires other software to control it. For more information on the different type's available visit FL Studio's software page.In my own opinion, FL Studio is the best value, as it's only $149 for the Producer Edition compared to Reason's $499 price tag and comes with a lifetime of free updates. That means whenever a newer version comes out, you can upgrade absolutely free! If you would like to try the software before buying it, trial versions are available for download at the Image-Line website.

The Sound Editor: Just like software sequencers, there are several sound editors available. The basic function of a sound editor is to edit wave files which can be especially helpful with sample-based production. Sample-based production essentially is using samples (a portion of an audio track) as the foundation to your music. These samples can be obtained from old records, sample CDs, or recorded from an instrument. With that in mind, the sound editor is particularly helpful when "chopping" up loops or drum breaks, or sampling sounds as it gives you a close-up visual representation of the sound file you're working on. Whether using your own samples, sound banks, or synthesizers, you'll find a sound editor extremely helpful and essential to your home studio. Some of the more popular sound editors include Adobe Audition, Propellerhead's Recycle, and Sony's Sound Forge. I have personally grown accustomed to using Adobe Audition (formerly known as Cool Edit) for my own sound editing needs and it retails for $349. Just like the software sequencers I mentioned earlier, there are shareware versions available and I highly recommend trying them all to find out which you're most comfortable with using. Fortunately, if you don't want to spend another $349 right away, the Producer Edition of FL Studio 6 comes with a standard wave editor with some basic features such as record, cut, copy, paste, etc. Here is a quick look at wave editor in FL Studio Producer Edition.

SCINTILLATING PERFORMANCE BY KALAPINI KOMKALI by Sanyukta S. Kashalkar

SCINTILLATING PERFORMANCE BY KALAPINI KOMKALI by Sanyukta S. Kashalkar

In a general scenario of fast evaporating scent of traditions inalienably associated with religious functions, it was a welcome experience to see Maharashtra Lok Seva Mandal Allahabad, keeping up with the tradition of inviting Kalapini Komkali daughter of the legendary Pt. Kumar Gandharva to perform during the 11 day long Sarwajanik Ganeshotsav festival recently.

Maharashtra Lok Seva Mandal, which was founded in 1957, celebrated its Golden Jubilee this year. The celebrations, besides religious ceremonies were studded with a variety of cultural and entertaining programmes which were a balanced mix of cultural traditions deeply rooted in Maharashtra as well as programmes that would attract the Hindi speaking crowd.

The Ganeshotsav today is celebrated all over the world and in most places where traditions are respected. The festival cannot but have Classical Music programmes performed by artists of repute as well as those who are knocking at the door and deserve to be provided a stage to demonstrate their skills and accomplishments. Keeping up with the spirit, the Maharashtra Lok Seva Mandal organized Kalapini Komkali's programme on 19th September 2007. The stage overlooking a hall has been witness to performances by luminaries such as Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Kumar Gandharva, Pt. Vasant Rao Deshpande and Vidushi Hirabai Barodekar besides some young artists of the likes of Devaki Pandit and Kaivalya Kumar to name a few. A genius and a well trained classical singer of the younger generation Kalapini Komkali is widely recognized as one of the finest vocalist of North Indian Classical Music representing the Gwalior Gharana. Kalapini is the daughter and disciple of the legendary maestro Pt. Kumar Gandharva and her equally illustrious mother, Padmashree Vasundhara Komkali.

Kalapini took up the stage and settled down vibrantly. The continuous sound of finely tuned Tanpuraas helped the audience being captivated towards her. Before starting her performance she addressed the listeners and established an instant rapport with them and started the journey of musical evening with Raga Yaman Kalyan.

She commenced with the aalap and her deep sounding voice moved the air and resonated along. The vilambit khayal in Ektaal (12 beats) with the bols," Devo daan mohe..." a composition by Pt. Kumar Gandharva, its beautiful rendering in Raga Yaman Kalyan mesmerized everyone. Following the perfect precisions of melodic scales (with the swaras, dominant Gandhara and constant Nishaad), features and the combination of alpatva shuddha Madhyama and a prominent touch of teevra (sharp) Madhyama in both ascending and descending movements showed her flair and understanding. She started picking up fast without spending much time that is very much like her father's style. Kalapini steadily went up to the higher pitch creating innovations over each swara of the Raga. The time when she rendered at the peak of her scale could easily be like her father's in rendition. She portrayed the aalap portion with the blend of meend, kann and khatka.

In about twenty minutes she shifted to an 'Abhang' (Marathi devotional songs) of Sant Tukaram in the Madhyalaya in the same Raga, in place of taking any Bandish in drut-laya she rendered it enjoying herself as one could see from the soulful, bold and rich voice. Producing designs and variations with the bols of the Abhang within the raga, the quick sapaat taans, long and short and coming to the 'Sama' (first beat of the taala) in different ways, which the audience were put to surprise at every Sama which was proved as the music lovers stroked their hands together on the sound of the first beat. Thus, the innovations wove a musical spell that merged well with the ambience.

Raga Des came next in the cavalcade, a seasonal raga and she sang a traditional bandish," Kanha re bansiya bajaee" and the very intricate Taraana "Yala ya yalaa" which displayed her talent in all the three saptaks and the bhava part in her recital. The presentation of the ragas originating from her throat rejoiced and rejuvenated the listeners who could not stop their hands holding together!

Another attraction of the evening were the Nirguni Bhajans of Malwa(Madhya Pradesh) composed by Pt. Kumar Gandharva, (which she has inherited and added to the rich and unique repertoire), brought together the Classical grandeur with Malwa folk tunes with high spirits. The famous and well known Nirguni Bhajan "Hirana Samajh..." by Kabir put the audience spell-bound and made them feel like a wayfarer to the soil of Malwa. The most remarkable thing to listen to is the literature of bandishes with gentle folk intonations, the soft whisper of the land of Malwa which Kalapini Komkali represents.

The Bhajan moved the crowd to a state of momentary renunciation and the pathos of the Bhajans left an indelible impression on them reminiscent of the electrifying effect Pt. Kumar Gandharva who would create with his Nirgun and Kabir renditions. Kalapini Komkali stood high in the esteem of the discerning audience comprising of connoisseurs such as Pt. Ramasrey Jha, Pt. Shantaram Kashalkar, Shri. S.N. Varma, Justice A. N. Varma, Rajiv Dave, Mala Tankha and many others. The musical content with the grammatical sincerity evidenced the perfection that Kalapini Komkali has achieved in both Khayal as well as semi-classical forms of art. Kalapini Komkali has always desired to find new creative inputs within her music and style of rendition so that something exotic, profound and artful comes out of her. She has carved a niche for herself through her mellifluous voice and wide range of scale with perfection. Those unfortunate ones who could not be a part of the audience can take a look into the song, "Kangana Re..." of the film Paheli by Amol Palekar where she has lent her voice. She has also composed and play-backed in the film Devi Ahilya where one can feel the essence of the Malwa folklore. Well, those present there pined for a still longer performance by Kalapini who had taken the evening in her fold with such a touch of class that it was only natural for the listeners to wait for more!

Britney Spears Getting Some Good Press? The Showcase of 'Just Britney' might just turn it around! by Sacreeta Veneficus

"Just Britney" Art Exhibition opened on September 28th 2007, at the World of Wonder Art Gallery in Hollywood, Calf. After all the negative publicity Britney has endured over the last year, who could think of a better Celebrity to be featured than Britney Spears.

Taking a grand look into the life and career of the popstar's ups and downs, it couldn't come at a better time for Britney, as she truly needs something to get the negative press image to change.

As a child star who started out wearing Mickey Mouse ears, as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club, to over night sensation as one of the youngest pop star singers at the age of 16, Britney grew up in the eyes of the Media. Adored and loved by many fans, they watched her basically grow up into a beautiful young woman, become a mother, go through two marriages and they witnessed her try to put her life back together after a difficult divorce and rehabs. This showcase bares all the truths, paparazzi photos, magazine covers, basically it's a collage of all the publicity into one show.

The showcase, featuring about 50 pieces of artwork will be displayed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbatos, the guys who made the The Eyes of Tammy Faye, a documentary, who was a tv avangelist Tammy Faye Bakker Meener collected the articles for the collage of Britney Artwork, quite simply calling their exhibition, 'Just Britney' when they opened the doors of their gallery on Friday. Thairin Smothers of Burlington, Iowa, co-curator of the 'Just Britney' art show at the World of Wonder art gallery has been actively supportive of the Show, and is said to be receptive to the media, with grand tours to the medium of Britney Art.

Some of the featured works of art displayed was a well done portrait of Britney, and the buzz on the street says the Gum Blond XLVII by Jason Kronenwald, who used chewing gum as his medium, is one of the hot ticket items to see. Also on display was an 9 ft 8 inch Snake Charmer created by Jamie Boling, which was inspired when a paparazzi took a rude picture, catching Britney on film hopping out of a car wearing nothing but a skirt to cover her downstairs. The Tabloid type photos of Britney aligned the walls, and one entitled 'Trainwreck' (C) by artist Sham Ibrahim was also displayed.

If you happen to be LA, why not drop by the World of Wonder Art Gallery in Hollywood, and check out the exhibit for yourself.

If you are interested in the story behind the story of Britney, however, there is a book you could purchase, entitled Britney Spears' Heart to Heart written by Britney Spears and her mother Lynne Spears, who has been quoted many times, as her mother and best friend. It is available at Amazon.com.

1, 2, 3, 4.. name that iPod Singer? by Sacreeta Veneficus

1, 2, 3, 4.. name that iPod Singer? by Sacreeta Veneficus

1, 2, 3, 4.. iPod's newest theme song, is an over night sensation!

Since the release of iPod's newest theme song, everyone has been going nuts trying to figure out who sings that song? It's a cute little song, mellow and catches attention right away. If you are one of the many trying to figure it out, think no more. After a little digging, this is what I found out!

Here ya go.

She's a little Canadian Gal, from Nova Scotia, who is a singer-songwriter, and her name is Leslie Feist. She created it with her co-writer Australia's own Sally Seltmann, known as New Buffalo. Sally wrote the initial song back in 2005, and Leslie rearranged and added a few of her lyrics to make it her own. Combined they came up with the cute little tune. And since Feist's debut on the iPod Nano Tv commercial, (which you can view on iPod's Apple Official Site), the little ditty has gotten everyone's attention.

On the net.. AND on the Billboard!

The company TBWA/Media Arts Lab used the theme song without naming the artist, and it didn't stop those surfers from searching for the voice behind the iPod.

According to 'The Register' Apple iTunes is the leader in downloads, where Apple reported they had sold 500m downloads. In January this year, they reported to have sold 230m songs to date. These figures of course are estimations, and can vary up or down, but it is the ballpark figure!

UK Rating: Her single is sitting in the top 20 rankings in the UK.

USA Rating: Running for the second week in the USA, raking at number 28, rising from 61.

The stats were released that downloads are passing 73,000 in iPod downloads.

Back to Leslie Fiest?

Her appearance on Late Night With David Letterman, started a riot of Net Surfing about her, the music, as Fiest sung her song on National TV.

Its parent Cherrytree/Interscope album 'The Reminder' record label, has been on the Top 100 Album Charts, rising, and currently sitting on number 36, and was sitting at number 16 in the USA. But since the rising star of the Nano Commericial, it's possible that "The Reminder' may rise again on the charts.

Feist's Toronto label, Arts & Crafts is where to go, if you want to dig a little more.

'I heard it all' Is another hit off the Album 'The Reminder', which was used as the Theme song at the Toronto Film Festival.

You can purchase a copy of the iPod song, on the Apple site, or look for Leslie Fiest's Album, 'The Reminder', to enjoy all of her songs. Or check out her previous album, 'Let it die' which was a debut, reportedly sold 147, 000 copies, and is a soft, sultry, fresh sound that is also worth checking out!

Lastly iPod Apple commercials also feature songs from Eminem, who reportedly brought a lawsuit against Apple for $10 million dollars, for using his song, Lose Yourself, without his permission. And he has sued Apple since, for what Eminem claimed as discretions in downloading of his music.

Other theme songs used on iPod came from U2's 'Vertigo', Wynton Marsalis (Jazz) for Bob Dylan's 'Modern Times', Paul McCartney 'Dance Tonight', Fratellis, and even Wolfmother. The 1, 2, 3, 4, Theme Song for Apple is certainly catchy.. now we know the digs on Fiest, and can out and buy a copy.. just for ourselves! Peace and Love

How to Play Guitar Barre Chords by Henre Lobus

How to Play Guitar Barre Chords by Henre Lobus

Playing a barre chord is one of the areas where beginners have difficulty in learning. This chord can be easily recognized by looking at the guitar player's index finger barring or lying flat on all the six strings of the same fret and forming the rest of the fingers in E or A position except for the thumb.

It is good to work out the strength of the index finger by using acoustic guitar where the strings are bit rigid in order to easily place or form barre chords if you use electric guitars. It is in like manner that when you exercise your body feels agile thus making you do your chores quickly. Moreover, the stiffness of your fingers will play an important role in learning to form guitar barre chords.

Forming barre chords in E position

E form is one of the common barre chords. Let me illustrate below:

 1 x x x x 1
/ / / 2 / /
/ 3 4 / / /

Where 1 is the index finger, 2 is the middle, 3 is the ring, and 4 is the small or pinky.

If you want to form F chord then position your fingers in the 1st fret. Just move higher to transpose like forming it in the 3rd fret for G major chord. Notice that fingers 2 to 4 resemble E major chord. Thus, naming it E form.

Forming barre chords in A position

Another popular barre chord is in A form. See below:

 x 1 x x x 1
/ / / / / /
/ / 2 3 4 /

A form is done by barring index finger on strings 1 to 5 making 6 as "dead" while the rest of the fingers are placed on the 3rd fret counting from the index finger. See how fingers 2 to 4 form the A major chord.

Bear in mind, it does not take overnight to learn barre chords if you are a beginner. It takes constant practice to refine its sound.

Guitar Videos - Fast Way To Learn Guitar by Henre Lobus

Guitar Videos - Fast Way To Learn Guitar by Henre Lobus

Early guitar players earn my great respect for they master their craft in a long and tedious way. They must have devoted most of their time learning techniques in trial-and-error basis. Guitar players like B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, and others are among the respected names where history testify their superior skill in playing guitar.

Not so long ago, if you want to learn to play guitar you need to buy instructional books with lots of images so you can see how a technique is done. Moreover, you need to watch concerts and see how your favorite guitar player do his riffs. I myself, with an experience of over 15 years in guitar playing, bought a lot of books and watched concerts to improve my skills.

Nowadays, the strong emergence of internet plays a vital role in exchanging knowledge fast that includes acquiring skills from other guitar players who have gone through the long process of learning. A brilliant medium to learn guitar as quick as possible is watching instructional videos which are widely available online. From beginner to a more advanced lessons. Availability comes also to a plethora of genres.

Nevertheless, you can still learn from books and images while reading guitar tabs but not as fast as watching videos. This is due to a fact that you see immediately where fingers should be on the fretboard and how the other hand strikes the strings in motion. Believe me many guitar players today attribute their success to instructional videos. Lessons in DVD and subscription are the choices for videos. If your pocket does not permit you to purchase one, might as well search the internet for free ones. But of course, you may have lots of videos at hand but if you do not practice and stretch your patients you have no where to go.

A Bonkersly Easy (and Simple) Way To Supercharge Traffic To Buy From Your Music Site. by Dominic Hough

A Bonkersly Easy (and Simple) Way To Supercharge Traffic To Buy From Your Music Site. by Dominic Hough

Now testimonials have got a good reputation, generally...well see for yourself, this is one persons view of this actual article:

"Wow Dominic, I didn't realise how easy it can be to implement this music marketing technique!" R.Greggs, Chicago.

What is the problem with this? Well for one, it is made up. I just done it. And two...who on earth is R.Greggs?

Now this is what I automatically think of when I go through any site, be it musical or not. The problem come in the fact that most testimonials are just too distant.

Sure people can put a web address down and even a picture. It does actually help a huge amount. It makes you less distant, and now more reliable. However, we are now in the 21st Century and our selling techniques should really keep up with the technology on offer.

The technology? That is Flash. Now I have said in the past that a web site shouldn't be made out of Flash...with the main reason being the search engines will not pick it up. But Flash is such a simple tool that it must be integrated into our web sites for us to stand a slightest chance of selling anything.

So what do we need to do?

First up is to actually embed Flash into our sites so that it is easy to work, preferably free, looks nice, easy to set up and more than anything...fool proof for the user.

Now I have searched high and low for a flash player that meets those demands (I couldn't tell you how many I have downloaded), and I have found one. Now I think that it is a traversty that this software hasn't been shouted about.

The various players- MP3 or Video (which can be found here). All you need to do is download either a movie player, or an MP3 player, upload the various players components to your site, upload an MP3 or Flash movie file (FLV), then tell the Coding Wizard where everything is stored. It will automatically give you the code. You copy and then paste it in to the source section of your HTML where you want the player...and thats it.

Simple.

As a side note: You see we should do everything ourselves so that we are not reliant on any other service. Youtube has a habit of stopping videos overnight, their quality is poor and it looks like we are cheap. Sure use YouTube for traffic generation and generating leads, but I wouldn't use it to sell on my site - it isn't professional especially if you are selling DVDs or software. Doubts will go into customers minds about your products quality...and the sale will walk away. There are also dedicated movie sites that charge per month...but we want to reduce our money output. So what do we do?

So the best way is to be clever at the start and buy a web hosting package that is cheap yet plentiful. Just be careful about your monthly bandwidth. Most hosting companies now offer incredible bandwidth solutions/ month so you shouldn't worry about that. I am with Superb Web Hosting who give me bandwidth of 750GB/ month...which is more than ample and at a normal hosting price. I don't need specific video hosting, poor quality free hosting and I don't need to pay anymore cash...bargain!

Anyway what do we actually do with our Flash players?

Ahh, I am glad that you asked. Now this is what your competition are not doing. You see you could record customers reactions to your music (especially at a concert) and place these as testimonials.

Promote concerts by recording previous concerts/ Gigs. Then question some of the goers before and after to see what they think? Promise them a free ticket, T-Shirt, CD etc for their trouble. If you get some bad reviews (which may happen), edit them out.

If you are friendly with your testimonial makers, why not get them to do a short piece on your stuff? Only a handful (literally) of sites have done this. Completely novel- they have interviewed buyers of the product to see what they think. Now that "nobody testimonial" has become a someone. It doesn't matter now who they are. How powerful is that style of testimonial? It generates thousands of sales weekly for some sites.

You should be using the Flash players to play your music (please no reduced quality or 1 minute play versions). Now I have increased my sales by well over 100% by doing this technique. Throughout my texts I have placed an MP3. So instead of having a bulk amount of MP3s in one place - where they can easily be forgotten, I have placed them throughout and leveraged the same set of MP3s to a better advantage.

The Flash players should be used to interview your group or yourself. Because the Internet is so faceless, adding a "face" to your site increases your credibility ten-fold. If you are the head of the company/ site, have you on your sales pages stating what you are actually selling- pointing out benefits to the customer, backing up your text.

If you don't like what you look like, the Flash players should be used to play your voice to help and direct people into making the proper decision.

Got a video or DVD? Flash player it at a reasonable size and quality to demonstrate what you have. Sales will increase with a demo of what you have.

Always remember though, that some people do not want to sit down and listen to you stating what you can be done. They want to see what can be done...that is the difference. If you play the guitar...Flash player yourself playing a certain specific style on one page and another style on another page. Therefore if I want to know how to make Flamenco music I don't want to see loads of other styles before you get to mine. Don't speak the specific style, just play it (and make it sound cool, vibrant and listenable).

So as you can see, there are a huge amount of scope for Flash players and they should be right up there with your top music marketing strategies.

The Truth About Piano Lessons Online - Top Products Review by Sergio Popov

The Truth About Piano Lessons Online - Top Products Review by Sergio Popov

The piano is a musical instrument that unlike poetry, is tangible. To me, learning the piano is the first step in building musicianship. It is also a harmonious instrument that is often accompanied by another instrument or even several different types. This may sound silly being a musician but one of the most beautiful things about this piano is how it's made and what it looks like and how exclusive it is... I'm a huge lover of art in every form and this piano just to look at is incredible.

You've always wanted to take piano lessons, why not now? Taking piano lessons will increase your ability to learn anything. I can't tell you how truly important piano lessons have become in my life. But they dramatically changed my lifestyle. If you focus on piano lessons, you will not have time to focus on things you don't want in you life. So if you are serious about starting piano lessons, think twice...

As you know, traditional piano lessons take years to learn to play well, but there are modern piano lessons, which can help you to achieve good results faster. This lessons will first give you introduction to learning how to play the piano, read basic notes, and learn basic rhythm and then will take up some intermediate piano lessons. But remember, everything depends on you. How you practice your piano lessons is how you do everything.

You will only need two piano lessons with a teacher per week to succeed. Private piano lessons can cost 30 an hour and more. But think, who taught the person that built the first piano how to play it? You are right - nobody. He learned to play the piano on his own. Today you can find a lot of piano courses with special software and video lessons, made by professional pianists. With this information, believe me, you will learn to play the piano whilst saving hundreds of dollars in piano teachers.
